Welcome to Spanish 1 & 2 with Señora Oster! “Learning another language is not only learning different words for the same things, but learning another way to think about things.” ‒Flora Lewis I began learning Spanish my sophomore year of high school. After spending a summer of high school as an exchange student in Costa Rica, I knew that I wanted to teach high school Spanish. I attended Western Oregon University, where I obtained both my bachelor's and master's degrees, and began my teaching career in 1992. I taught Spanish at various schools in Oregon including Santiam High School, Sandy High School, and Mt. Hood Community College, before joining the staff at Ridgefield High School in 2009. I love the Spanish language and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries, and I hope that my enthusiasm carries over to my classes and students. Other things I love are spending time with my husband and my children (two teenage boys), traveling, cooking, and being active. I am a runner and an Irish stepdancer. I have completed numerous triathlons and half marathons, and in April 2015 I completed my first full marathon. The 2020-21 school year is my 29th year of teaching, and my 12th year at RHS. 2020-21 Teaching Schedule Period 1 Spanish I Period 2 planning period Period 3 Spanish I Period 4 Spanish I Period 5 Spanish II Period 6 Spanish II Students making and decorating sugar skulls for Día de los Muertos Señora Oster ziplining in Monteverde, Costa Rica, 2011 |
