TEACHER CLARITY: Teachers clarify the purpose and learning goals, connect the learning goals to prior and future learning, and provide explicit success criteria when starting a new unit or project.

CLASSROOM DISCUSSION: Teachers create and facilitate opportunities for authentic student-led discussions that promote discourse    

FEEDBACK: Teachers provide feedback (both individual and whole-group) that is timely, specific, and meaningful, addressing areas needing improvement and celebrating student progress.

ASSESSMENTS:  Teachers routinely use and analyze both formative (for learning) and summative (of learning) in developing the next steps for instruction. 

METACOGNITION: Teachers end each lesson with a summary or recap, and provide an opportunity for students to think about their thinking.
